The European region is home to the highest rates of multi drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) in the world, accounting for nearly 20 percent of the global burden. Controlling and treating this airborne disease costs the European Union an estimated €750 million every year -- and this number is only expected to rise if Europe doesn't act now.
To demonstrate the devastating impact of TB in Europe, a photo exhibit will be hosted at the European Parliament, opening March 20th in time for World TB Day."Faces of Tuberculosis" is organized by Ms. Glenis Willmott MEP, Member of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee of the European Parliament, the WHO Regional office for Europe, and the European Parliament Working Group on Innovation, Access to Medicines and Poverty-Related Diseases.
